Review of Training Plan to Strengthen Management Capacity in the Hermandad Marine Reserve
, June 5, 2026
As part of the project to strengthen inter-institutional coordination for the control and surveillance of the Hermandad Marine Reserve, funded by the Galápagos Life Fund (GLF) and co-implemented by the Jocotoco Foundation, representatives from the Ecuadorian Navy, the Undersecretariat of Fisheries Resources (SRP), and the Galápagos National Park Directorate (DPNG) met to review the initial draft of a Training Plan designed to strengthen the technical, legal, and operational capacities of the personnel responsible for protecting this important marine protected area.
The proposed training program includes specialized modules on navigation and maritime safety, marine and coastal ecosystems, fisheries and production systems, and maritime operations. Topics range from national and international regulatory frameworks to fisheries management, control and surveillance, navigation systems, first aid, and maritime interdiction procedures.
This collaborative effort aims to strengthen institutional capacities, enhance inter-agency coordination, and reinforce control and surveillance actions that contribute to the long-term conservation of Galápagos’ natural capital.
