Strengthening Support for Fishing Cooperatives
, August 29, 2026
Fundación Jocotoco, WildAid, Conservation International Ecuador, and the Galápagos Artisanal Fishing Production Cooperative (COPROPAG) are joining forces to strengthen sustainable small-scale fishing in Galápagos. As part of this partnership, a flake ice production unit with the capacity to produce approximately 10 tons of ice every 24 hours was delivered to the cooperative.
This infrastructure will help strengthen the cooperative’s operational capacity by improving the handling and preservation of fishery products. It will also help maintain the cold chain and improve conditions for their commercialization.
The delivery was made possible thanks to the support of the Galápagos Life Fund (GLF), through the project “Strengthening Sustainable Fisheries Management and Governance in the Galápagos Marine Reserve,” as well as support from Ocean Finance Company through the EcoGourmet initiative.
An important aspect of this initiative is COPROPAG’s direct contribution, which demonstrates a strong sense of ownership, shared responsibility, and commitment among fishers to the care and long-term sustainability of infrastructure that is key to strengthening their livelihoods and productive activities.
