The Interinstitutional Workshop for the Implementation of the Maritime Control and Surveillance Protocol of the Hermandad Marine Reserve was officially launched in San Cristóbal, bringing together 35 officials from the Galápagos National Park Directorate, the Ecuadorian Navy, and the Undersecretariat of Fisheries Resources.

The training program, which runs through January 23 and includes both theoretical and practical sessions, is funded by the Galápagos Life Fund (GLF) and implemented by WildAid, as part of a government-led project aimed at strengthening management, control, and enforcement across Galápagos’ marine protected areas.

During the opening session, Danny Rueda, Conservation Officer at GLF, highlighted the importance of strong interinstitutional coordination as a cornerstone for effective management—one that optimizes resources and responds efficiently to the challenges of maritime control.
