GLF Provides Equipment and Services to Strengthen Monitoring and Surveillance in Galápagos’ Marine Reserves

GLF, October 14, 2026

The Galápagos Life Fund (GLF) held a symbolic handover of equipment, supplies, and services to the Galápagos National Park Directorate (GNPD) as part of the second year of implementation of the Government Project, which began in May 2026. This support is part of GLF’s ongoing investment in strengthening the operational and technological capabilities of the authority responsible for managing the Galápagos Marine Reserve and the Hermandad Marine Reserve.

The handover included vessel spare parts and accessories, technology, communications and navigation equipment, protective gear, operational supplies, and personnel support services. These resources help strengthen monitoring, control, and surveillance activities while improving working conditions and the ability of teams to respond effectively to the challenges of protecting marine ecosystems.

The ceremony brought together representatives of both institutions and was attended by Alicia Jaramillo, Ecuador’s Deputy Minister of the Environment, as guest of honor. Participants highlighted the importance of continued coordination to address the operational needs of Galápagos’ marine protected areas.

Through the Government Project, GLF continues to direct funding toward practical solutions that strengthen the public management of marine conservation, providing the equipment, tools, and essential services the GNPD needs to carry out its responsibilities.

This handover reflects the ongoing collaboration between GLF and the GNPD to ensure that conservation funding translates into stronger monitoring and surveillance capabilities and more effective protection of Galápagos’ natural heritage.
