GLF Joins World Environment Day Celebration at ECOFEST 2025
, June 6, 2025
To mark World Environment Day, the Galápagos Life Fund (GLF) took part in ECOFEST 2025—an environmental fair organized by the Municipality of Santa Cruz. Held in Puerto Ayora, the event brought together over 20 public, private, and civil society organizations dedicated to conservation and sustainable development in the archipelago.
This June 5th, the world celebrated World Environment Day under the theme “Our Land. Our Future,” calling for ecosystem restoration and more sustainable use of natural resources. In Galápagos, this observance was significant given the fragility and unique richness of its land and marine ecosystems.
GLF hosted an interactive booth where visitors learned about the fund’s mission and its core areas of support, which include marine conservation, sustainable fisheries, environmental education, and scientific research. The booth also featured engaging activities and prizes for active participants, creating a lively and educational atmosphere for children, youth, and adults alike.

“For GLF, participating in community events is essential—especially those involving children and teenagers—because they not only learn but also become agents of change within their families. We believe in the power of local initiatives and the ability of the next generation to lead marine conservation from our islands,” said Mónica Calvopiña, Executive Director of the Galápagos Life Fund.
GLF’s participation in events like this reaffirms its commitment to inclusive conservation and the strengthening of local efforts to protect the Galápagos’ marine heritage.
