Funding That Creates a Lasting Impact for Galápagos Children

Funding from the Galápagos Life Fund (GLF) is making a tangible difference in the community through From the Sea to School, a child nutrition initiative that promotes sustainable local fisheries.

Since September 14, approximately 400 students at Alejandro Alvear School began receiving healthy school snacks made with local ingredients and sustainably caught fish. The initiative will continue over the next six months, bringing nutritious food into the classroom while strengthening the connection between local fisheries, healthy eating, and the responsible use of Galápagos’ marine resources.

Led by San Francisco de Quito University (USFQ) and the Galápagos Science Center, the project combines nutrition education, the participation of local fishers, and scientific monitoring to promote healthier eating habits while supporting sustainable fishing practices.

For the GLF, investing in conservation also means supporting solutions that connect community well-being with the responsible and sustainable use of Galápagos’ natural resources.
