Training to Strengthen Safety and Operational Procedures

During a capacity-building workshop for operational personnel from the Galápagos National Park Directorate and the Ecuadorian Navy, the Galápagos Life Fund (GLF) presented its Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS), Code of Ethics, performance standards, and environmental and social safeguards that institutions benefiting from GLF-funded projects are required to follow.

The training moved beyond theory and into real-world scenarios. Through practical exercises based on situations that may arise during vessel boarding and inspection procedures, participants analyzed different scenarios and made decisions aimed at ensuring regulatory compliance, personnel safety, and responsible and equitable conduct throughout these operations.

The exercises helped strengthen decision-making in the field, prepare personnel to respond appropriately to the challenges and pressures that can arise during operations, and reinforce coordination among the institutions involved in marine enforcement activities.

Through the Government Project, the GLF funds monitoring, control, and surveillance efforts in the Galápagos Marine Reserve and the Hermandad Marine Reserve, helping strengthen not only the operational capacities of the institutions responsible for their protection, but also the standards and best practices that guide their work.
