We kicked off a joint effort for marine conservation in Galápagos
, April 29, 2026
Today, the launch workshop of the “Cooperative Strengthening of the Control and Surveillance System” project was held, an initiative that brings together the Ecuadorian Navy, the Galápagos National Park Directorate, and the Undersecretariat of Fisheries Resources, with funding from the Galápagos Life Fund.
During the session, participating institutions aligned technical, operational, and management criteria for the project’s implementation, which aims to strengthen control and surveillance capacity in the Hermandad Marine Reserve and the Galápagos Marine Reserve.
The Galápagos Life Fund (GLF) also presented the policies that will guide project implementation, ensuring transparency, regulatory compliance, and responsible resource management. These include environmental and social safeguards, ethics, procurement, and risk prevention guidelines, key elements to ensure the integrity of the process.
This milestone marks the beginning of a coordinated effort that brings together capacity, knowledge, and resources to protect one of the most important marine ecosystems on the planet.
