, January 27, 2026
With the participation of officials from the Galápagos National Park Directorate, the Ecuadorian Navy, and the Subsecretariat of Fisheries Resources, the Interinstitutional Workshop for the Implementation of the Maritime Control and Surveillance Protocol of the Hermandad Marine Reserve concluded in San Cristóbal. This strategic training was funded by the Galápagos Life Fund (GLF) and implemented by WildAid, as part of the grant allocated to the government to strengthen marine reserve management.
Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in both theoretical and practical sessions, including operational exercises and visits to the Monitoring Center and a local fishing cooperative. These activities strengthened the interinstitutional coordination required for the effective protection of the Hermandad Marine Reserve—an area of high ecological sensitivity and key to regional marine connectivity. The training concluded by reaffirming the shared commitment of participating institutions and the GLF to an integrated, efficient, and capacity-based approach to marine management.
