We support the second scientific expedition to the Hermandad Marine Reserve
, March 26, 2026
The Galápagos Life Fund is supporting the second interinstitutional scientific expedition to the Hermandad Marine Reserve (RMH), led by the Galápagos National Park Directorate, as part of a shared commitment to strengthening its long-term management and conservation.
Over 21 days at sea, this expedition will advance the consolidation of the RMH baseline and initiate its continuous oceanographic and ecological monitoring. Key variables—including oceanographic and meteorological conditions, biodiversity, environmental quality, and the abundance of pelagic species—will be assessed, generating essential information for decision-making.
The expedition brings together scientists and technical experts from the Galápagos National Park Directorate, the Oceanographic and Antarctic Institute of the Navy, the Public Institute for Aquaculture and Fisheries Research, Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral, and the Galápagos Science Center, working collaboratively to strengthen knowledge of this key marine corridor.
This initiative is made possible through funding from the Galápagos Life Fund, together with strategic partners such as The Pew Charitable Trusts and Oceans Finance Company, in coordination with the participating institutions.
