Training to promote local fisheries development in Manabí
As part of its ongoing commitment to strengthen artisanal fishing along the Ecuadorian coast, the Galápagos Life Fund regularly provides training to support fishers in adapting to the new regulations of the Hermandad Marine Reserve and ensuring long-term economic sustainability.
In this context, more than 180 participants—including fishers and their spouses—from the communities of San Mateo, Santa Marianita, Las Piñas, Jaramijó, and Manta took part in the workshops “Handling, Preservation, and Processing of Fish Products” organized by the GLF in coordination with the Eastern Pacific Fishing School (EPESPO).

During the practical sessions, participants learned key techniques to ensure the safety, quality, and market value of fish products—from proper gutting and maintaining the cold chain, to creating innovative culinary products such as fish nuggets and burgers ready for the local market.
These efforts reflect the GLF’s commitment to strengthening the artisanal fishing sector and promoting its role as a strategic ally in the conservation of the Hermandad Marine Reserve.
