Strengthening capacities to defend ecosystems in Galápagos
, March 20, 2026
As part of the Guardianas Azules project, implemented by Ola Igualdad and funded by the Galápagos Life Fund (GLF), a training workshop was held focused on legal tools for the defense of ecosystems and the rights of nature in Ecuador.
The workshop was led by Esperanza Martínez, lawyer and founder of Acción Ecológica, who shared her experience in environmental defense processes and in shaping the legal framework that recognizes nature as a rights-bearing entity in the country. The session encouraged reflection on the role of citizens and environmental leaders in protecting their territories.
Through initiatives like this, GLF contributes to strengthening local capacities, promoting women’s leadership in conservation, and fostering a more conscious and active relationship with Galápagos’ marine and terrestrial ecosystems.
