Ángel ValenciaÁngel Valencia was born in the province of Esmeraldas, to an Esmeraldeño father and a Manabita mother. He moved to Galápagos at a young age in 1985. Since 2000, he has been an officially licensed fisherman, building a well-recognized career in the sector. Valencia has long been involved with the Galápagos Fishing Production Cooperative (COPROPAG) in Santa Cruz, first serving several terms on the supervisory council and more recently as vice president of the board. In June of this year, he became president of the cooperative, leading efforts to strengthen the organization.
He has received training in cooperativism and played an active role in building COPROPAG’s facilities. Certified as an artisanal fisherman by the National Artisan Board, he is also the father of three children—one of whom is following in his footsteps in artisanal fishing. Valencia currently represents the fishing sector on the Board of Directors of the Galápagos Life Fund, contributing his vision and commitment to the sustainability of this activity in the archipelago.Giuseppe Di CarloGiuseppe Di Carlo works for Dona Bertarelli Philanthropy, where he contributes to advancing ocean conservation efforts. He previously spent 12 years with the World Wide Fund for Nature in various leadership roles, and most recently directed the Mediterranean Marine Initiative, which helps support countries in the region in achieving key conservation and management targets.
He previously served as director of the Isola di Ustica Marine Reserve in Italy and worked for Conservation International as senior manager for climate change, providing support to programs in countries around the globe. Di Carlo, who is based in Rome, is fluent in Italian, English, Spanish, and French. Di Carlo holds a bachelor’s degree in marine sciences from Queen Mary University of London and a doctorate in marine sciences from the University of Southampton. He studied and analyzed coastal marine ecosystems during postdoctoral research fellowships with the University of New Hampshire and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.Andrés OrdóñezBachelor in Hotel Business Administration, Bachelor in Business Administration, and Master in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Speaker on Business Management, Sustainability, Organizational Relations, Community Tourism, Governance, among others, in Ecuador (various cities and universities), England (WTM), Canada (University of Calgary), United States (Rainforest Experiences, Sustainable Conference), Brazil (Instituto de Desarrollo Murauá), Spain (EUROAL), and Colombia (Medellín, San Gil, and Cartagena). University Professor and accredited facilitator in Labor Competencies.
Member of the Technical Advisory Committee of the UNDP Equator Initiative international program. Private sector representative on the Presidential Mission European tour. Author of an academic book on Entrepreneurship and Business Management, reporter, co-author with the University of Oxford – England in the publication for The International Indigenous Policy Journal / University of Ontario, and co-author with Penn State University – USA for the Journal of Sustainable Tourism. Currently holding the position of Executive Director of the Provincial Chamber of Tourism of Galápagos, as well as Organizational Advisor and Speaker.
