Implementation of traceability and sustainable commercialization systems for the San Cristóbal artisanal fishers’ cooperative – Phase I

Project Summary

The project aims to strengthen the capacities of the San Cristóbal artisanal fishers’ cooperative (COPESAN) through a strategy focused on internal governance, sustainable commercialization, and partnerships with local stakeholders.

Through a participatory process, guidelines will be developed to improve the cooperative’s administrative, operational, and organizational performance, as well as mechanisms to strengthen coordination with productive, tourism, and community actors.

Expected Results

• Fish collection center upgraded in infrastructure and operating under sanitary and food safety standards, including an ice plant and refrigerated truck.
• Organizational and commercial assessment of COPESAN completed.
• Reduction of illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing through the use of active traceability technology.
• Strategic partnerships established to improve the commercialization of fishery products.
• Strengthened technical and organizational capacities of COPESAN members.
