GLF invests over USD 12 million in conservation and community in 2025
, September 30, 2025
The Galápagos Life Fund (GLF) is a non-governmental organization that provides permanent financial resources to protect Galápagos’ marine ecosystems and strengthen its communities. In 2025, GLF has allocated more than USD 12 million across three key funding streams:
– Government Projects: USD 6 million in the first year of an inter-institutional plan with the Galápagos National Park Directorate, the Ecuadorian Navy, and the Subsecretariat of Fisheries Resources to enhance control and surveillance over more than 203,000 km² of marine protected areas.
– Community Projects: USD 3.8 million across 18 grants for environmental education and sustainable fishing, benefiting the four inhabited islands.
– Hermandad Marine Reserve Transition Plan: USD 2.6 million to support continental artisanal fishers through training, new technologies, and satellite monitoring devices.
Through these investments, GLF promotes a model of community-based conservation, where authorities, cooperatives, NGOs, and citizens work together to protect marine biodiversity and improve quality of life in Galápagos.
