Engine Maintenance Workshop for Artisanal Fishers from the Ecuadorian Mainland

GLF, August 8, 2025

Around 250 artisanal fishers from the coastal communities of Las Piñas, Santa Marianita, Jaramijó, San Mateo, and San Lorenzo (Manabí Province) participated in the “Engine Maintenance and Repair” workshop, which included a hands-on module on outboard motors, financed by the Galápagos Life Fund (GLF).

Throughout the training, participants strengthened their technical skills by learning:
✅ How engines work and key performance parameters.
✅ Preventive and corrective maintenance techniques (oil and filter changes, basic adjustments).
✅ Diagnostic methods to identify and solve common mechanical issues.
✅ Safety standards for workshops and on-board operations.

This initiative reflects the GLF’s commitment to empowering artisanal fishers and promoting their role as strategic allies in the conservation and sustainable use of the Hermandad Marine Reserve
