Board Director
Ángel Valencia was born in the province of Esmeraldas, to an Esmeraldeño father and a Manabita mother. He moved to Galápagos at a young age in 1985. Since 2000, he has been an officially licensed fisherman, building a well-recognized career in the sector. Valencia has long been involved with the Galápagos Fishing Production Cooperative (COPROPAG) in Santa Cruz, first serving several terms on the supervisory council and more recently as vice president of the board. In June of this year, he became president of the cooperative, leading efforts to strengthen the organization.
He has received training in cooperativism and played an active role in building COPROPAG’s facilities. Certified as an artisanal fisherman by the National Artisan Board, he is also the father of three children—one of whom is following in his footsteps in artisanal fishing. Valencia currently represents the fishing sector on the Board of Directors of the Galápagos Life Fund, contributing his vision and commitment to the sustainability of this activity in the archipelago.
