From Sea to Soil: Turning Residue into Opportunities for Galápagos

GLF, October 13, 2026

Galápagos has taken an important step toward a circular economy with the signing of a property loan-for-use agreement between COPROPAG and Del Mar al Campo Galápagos S.A.S. The agreement will provide the space needed to establish a small-scale fertilizer production facility that will transform fishery byproducts into valuable agricultural inputs.

What was once considered residue can now become a valuable resource, supporting local agriculture and creating new opportunities for island communities.

Launched with the support of Conservation International, this initiative offers an innovative approach to turning fishery byproducts into resources for local agriculture. With funding from the Galápagos Life Fund (GLF), it is now entering a new phase of development and growth.
