Training to Strengthen Marine Surveillance in Galápagos

By Galápagos Life Fund, October 1, 2025

The Galápagos Life Fund (GLF) supported a training workshop held on September 29 and 30, where park rangers from the Galápagos National Park Directorate, officers from the Ecuadorian Navy, and staff from the Sub-Secretariat of Fisheries Resources were trained in the use of the THEMIS WEB platform.

This tool integrates satellite information from vessels operating inside and outside the Galápagos Marine Reserve and the Hermandad Marine Reserve, making it easier to detect unauthorized activities.

Thanks to this training, coordinated by WildAid and funded by GLF, monitoring and enforcement in the archipelago’s marine protected areas are being strengthened, ensuring they remain a sanctuary for the planet’s unique species
