Technology for a Safer, More Protected Ocean

GLF, September 30, 2025

The Galápagos Life Fund (GLF) is advancing the implementation of the Hermandad Marine Reserve (HMR) Transition Plan with the signing of a contract with Infopront for the acquisition, installation, and operation of 2,000 VMS devices, designated for small-scale artisanal fishing vessels from mainland Ecuador.

The event was attended by a representative of CLS, the manufacturer of the equipment, who participated as guest of honor.

These devices will enable real-time satellite monitoring of vessels, strengthening both fishers’ safety and compliance with the regulations of the Hermandad Marine Reserve.

Through training, technology, and technical support, the HMR Transition Plan supports the artisanal fishing sector of mainland Ecuador in adopting more sustainable practices that contribute to marine conservation.
