The sixteenth meeting of the GLF Board of Directors took place on September 9, during which progress in institutional management was reviewed in key areas such as finance, safeguards, and communications.

The session also approved two important governance decisions: the appointment of Ángel Valencia as the new representative of the fisheries sector, and Rakan Zahawi, representing the Charles Darwin Foundation in the conservation NGO sector. Both were elected through internal processes within their respective sectors and will serve as directors for the next two years.

In addition, the Board approved the awarding of medium and large grants from the GLF’s first call for proposals, supporting eight projects focused on sustainable fisheries and environmental education. The official handover of these grants will take place this afternoon, marking a significant step forward in strengthening conservation and sustainable development in Galápagos.
